About the Oval Dragon Artwork:
In 1980, George Powell commissioned artist VC Johnson to create a new dragon graphic, taking inspiration from Lord of the Rings. To optimize its use on stickers and t-shirts, the graphic was designed in an oval shape resembling a logo. The final design was debuted at the Gold Cup contest series and received praise from skaters Caballero and McGill at the Upland Finals. The Oval Dragon became the top graphic for all Powell-Peralta decks and assemblies for seven years, until the Winged Ripper replaced it in 1987.
